I chose the 180-Hour TEFL course because I wanted my course to include a hands-on teaching component. CIEE offers this course with 20 teaching practice hours – mine were taken online because of the pandemic – and the practical aspect of the course solidified the technical theory of the modules. It’s a very friendly, proactive school and when you have a question they answer you. There was also an option for job placement support, but I already had a job secured and just needed the TEFL for my work and visa papers. The teaching component also meant that I had a general awareness of what my role should be when I first stood in my first paid class, with real face-to-face students this time. The price of the course might be high for some, but if you have the spare budget for it then I’d definitely recommend considering the 180-Hour TEFL course, or any other course which includes some practical training. You might not need it, but then again you might.
