The Vantage TEFL platform is above the standard for those who seek online learning for job opportunities in Thailand and surrounding countries. They have interactive classes along with course assignments to test our practical skills on what we learned. This includes teaching face-to-face classes at their Bangkok head office. As a non-native English speaker, I was finding it difficult to be accepted by the many TEFL schools in Thailand, but Vantage TEFL welcomed me with open arms and could see that just because I wasn’t born in an English-speaking country it doesn’t mean that I can’t teach the language. I have studied English since I was a child and my knowledge of the language is as good, sometimes better, than teachers whom I’ve met that were born in the UK and the United States. So I appreciated the fact that Vantage was able to see my potential and not just the color and origin of my passport. The course Vantage TEFL offer is full of relevant topics and they provide an embossed certificate on successful course completion.
I planned to stay in Thailand and teach somewhere in the south, but after visiting Cambodia for a short holiday I decided that I would rather live and work here instead. I ended up deciding on Kampot because it is close to the ocean and you are still surrounded by tropical jungle. The famous pepper derives from this region and the locals make use of the spice in every way they can 🙂 thankfully, I love pepper! 🙂 Kampot is growing in popularity, but it still seems to be a through point for trips to the sea and the mountains. This means that it isn’t so overrun with tourists and is not saturated with large numbers of English teachers. I found a job within a week of arriving.
OK. Now the money. Yes, I only earn $10 or $11 for one teaching hour, but my accommodation costs $5 a night, so you shouldn’t be put off by the low wages because it’s all in balance. Kampot is a walkable city and Cambodian students are ace. If you don’t need to save money and just want to enjoy a stress-free life for a while, I can recommend Kampot. Oh, and my love of pepper will come in handy too 🙂
