“For the course, I give four stars. For the customer service, I give two stars”

This review is about the myTEFL Job Placement Service. It’s not about the course. I thought the course was OK. The course is divided into easy-to-digest modules, with tests at the end of each that question the knowledge taught. I thought this system worked really well-especially in my case because I have never been a fan of taking one big, important test at the end of a course. Continuous assessment is fairer for students. For the course, I give four stars. For the customer service, I give two stars.

After finishing the course I was expecting a professional-looking certificate. The certificate looks like a certificate template you can easily download from the internet. Still, it is a TEFL certificate and I guess it will be good enough for jobs. But then came the hard sell. I was literally bombarded with emails and phone calls to pay for the job-finding service. After I did some research, I realized that MyTEFL must make a lot of money from this service they provide because the salaries they offer are a lot lower than the salaries quoted in language school job adverts. MyTEFL wanted me to sign a legally-binding contract before I had even decided if to use their job-finding services. I thought this was very unprofessional and just not good enough. Fair to assume that I politely turned down their offer and now I am looking for work on my own, without their “help”.
