Is World TESOL Academy Legit?

3.24.2021 Update: The answer to ‘Is World TESOL Academy legit?’ is taking a decided turn for the worse, and this program is sounding more and more like a well-planned scam.

From what we can gather so far about World TESOL Academy:

  1. The course has always been on offer for $34 USD.
  2. They started offering their TEFL courses at the start of 2020.
  3. At the start of 2020, they were accrediting their courses through an accreditation website that they created themselves: ETQC.
  4. They have since started to be accredited by ACCREDITAT; really making us wonder just how exhaustive ACCREDITAT’s due diligence is when handing out their accreditation stamp of approval, and leading us to really question the legitimacy of ACCREDITAT.
  5. When students sign up for their $34 TEFL course, World TESOL Academy begins by pressurizing you to sign up friends and family to the program. This continues throughout the course, and weeks and months after you thought your time with them were complete.
  6. The hundreds of 5-star reviews they have on certain review websites are on the certain review websites that earn money via TEFL/TESOL programs through affiliate marketing. i.e, it is in the interests of those websites to promote positive reviews and hide the negative ones.
  7. You complete the whole 120-hour TEFL course within one day.
  8. The certificate that you receive looks very different from the one promised on the World TESOL Academy website.
  9. Any requests for a refund are either categorically denied, or simply ignored.
  10. You will likely fail any TEFL job interview with this certification because the course doesn’t teach you anything and you won’t be able to answer even the basic interview questions asked; let alone being able to teach a satisfactory demo lesson.

The above has been demonstrated in the following verified customer email, in the verified customer comments below, and in other Trusted TEFL Reviews World TESOL Academy verified reviews.

In light of all of the above information – information submitted to the Trusted TEFL Reviews platform, in the form of verified customer comments and reviews – we are adding a blacklisted warning to this post.

We recently received an email message from a World TESOL Academy recent customer:

“I just wanted to make you aware of this company called world tesol academy because I see you have no reviews about them https://www.worldtesolacademy.com/ . I have tried to submit reviews on other platforms, but because they are paid platforms, such as Go Overseas, the bad reviews don’t get shown and because I didn’t complete the course, they don’t believe me that I took their course. The truth is that I paid for the course $34 and it was so bad that I thought I would try to get a refund and when I ask for a refund they ignored me. I sent them some very upsetting emails and they still ignored me and then denied me access to the course. This company has totally scammed me. I should have listened to my friends about taking a cheap course but I didn’t have much money. I will now start all over again and find a new course provider.”

World TESOL Academy’s introductory, zero-review rating does mean that they will need to begin (alphabetically) at the bottom of the Trusted TEFL Reviews ranking table.

So, is World TESOL Academy legit? We would like to hear from any graduates who have taken one of their courses.

TEFL Accreditation Guide

How do I know I can trust the reviews on Trusted TEFL Reviews?

  1. Not sure whybthis school is wvwn on this recommended list of not accredited at all by any known credible institution?

I inquired direct with thier accreditation agency Accredidat. See convo string. Don’t be fooled, do your homework people. I and a group of friends almost fell for this scam.

    Convo string:

Thank you. I was afraid that would be your answer.

As you and I both know, the UKRLP is merely a registry site for disseminating information on education providers whom have registered with them. It is not a accreditation body.

Further, the Education and Skills Funding Agency only operates this registry (UKLRP) and ONLY verifies that the agency or organization exists.

Additionally, they provide no endorsements or quality assurance on ANY scale. More to the point, not as a legitimate accreditation organization that represent quality and endorsments accepted amoung learning/teaching institutions for either international or domestic standards.

If I am miss understanding this in any way, please feel free to educate me, as my goal is to acquire an industry standard accredited certification for TESOL.

    Regards,

    Tony Berg

    Hi Tony

Yes, World TESOL Academy is accredited by ACCREDITAT and their certification will demonstrate this. They offer a high-quality course.

UKRLP (UK Register of Learning Providers)

ACCREDITAT is registered under the UKRLP (UK Register of Learning Providers), Number 10065351.
Registration on the UKRLP means that we have been verified against a recognised UK legal source.

    To whome it may concern,

World TESOL Academy (worldtesolacademy.com) represents itself to have completed and qualified under your strict agency accreditation process, as a ESL certification provider.

I am simply trying to confirm that this is the case, therefore any certificate earned via thier training systems will be “certified as accredited” by your organization and meet international standards.

Please forgive this line of questioning. There are so many agencies offering these courses and many appear not to by accredited by a reputable accreditation service.

    Thank you,

    Tony Berg

    1. Tony.

This is very interesting. It is particularly interesting that ACCREDITAT categorically states: ‘Yes, World TESOL Academy is accredited by ACCREDITAT and their certification will demonstrate this. They offer a high-quality course’.

I’m just wondering in which universe their course can be described, without smiling a Cheshire cat’s grin, as being “high-quality”.

This is raising some serious concerns about both World TESOL Academy and ACCREDITAT.

Perhaps one, or both, could come on here to address these ACCREDITAT / World TESOL Academy customer concerns?

We know that both World TESOL Academy and ACCREDITAT have visited this page, so perhaps the next time they do, they could explain themselves.

  2. I wouldn’t bother getting a cheap tesol certificate as they are not valued by employers and I’ve heard some bad things about World TESOL Academy. Their accreditation is just an independent accreditor, not government regulated, so it’s basically just a company you pay money to and they say you are accredited.
I would stay away if I were you and find a reputable course provider.

  3. Was going to take their $34 Tefl course myself. They seemed legit and the price was much lower than other programs who also offer the 120-hour Tefl online.
That was until I did some digging around and discovered that World Tesol Academy apparently started out with a fake accreditation website which they created for themselves.
The accreditation was ETQC and their certificates still show this name.
I also read online about someone complaining that it just took them 2.5 hours to complete their “120-hour” course.
Can’t imagine that the Accreditat accreditation that World Tesol Academy have now can be that reliable either, given that they have agreed to give this sort of company full accreditation.

  4. The world tesol academy has been showing up a lot in my Facebook feed recently.

One of their claims is that the low $34 cost of their 120 hour course is a limited time only offer. I did a bit of searching and found that they have always offered the course for $34, ever since they began offering their course at the beginning of 2020.

They also claim: “the course covers all of the essentials for teaching overseas and online. It’s accepted by all the major online teaching companies, and can be used to teach overseas including with the visa applications for countries like China and Vietnam (two of the strictest in the world).”

It might be accepted by some schools, but you won’t learn much at all with this course and I doubt you will successfully pass many job interviews when you are asked some basic teaching English knowledge questions.

  5. Their course will not teach you a thing. It’s not even worth $34. When I signed up for the course the first part of it is them trying to get you to sell their courses by giving you an affiliate link and nothing about teaching English. Then you get bombarded with emails saying refer a friend. They are just a grab your money and run kind of company.

  6. Hi! This is an update on my journey into TEFL! 🙂
I previously wrote that I chose not to do the World TESOL Academy TEFL because people were saying that it took them just a couple of hours to complete the course.
I then read the reviews and more red flags kept popping up.
The idea of constantly being pressured to get others to enroll in the course was one red flag. All the extras they charge you along the way was another.
Besides, I wanted to learn something from a course, and the World TESOL Academy TEFL just seemed too basic.
I knew I’d need to know my subject when I interviewed for jobs and began teaching, and the $34 for a 120 hours course was just too good to be true.
I also wanted my TEFL certificate to be internationally recognized.
I spent another week researching other schools and in the end, I bit the bullet and just went with the highest-rated one: TEFL Online Pro.
I enrolled in their 120 hours course: https://teflonlinepro.com/120-hour-professional/
I can report back that all has been great. Really great.
Even though it cost more than if I’d taken the one run by World TESOL Academy, it was worth it.
There were no hidden fees and I wasn’t asked to get others to sign up for the program.
    The course is excellent.
I learned a lot in the 120 hours of study.
Oh, and the course took me two weeks to complete. Not two hours.
Plus, I had a really helpful online tutor whom I could ask questions (she was super responsive) and they also helped me find a job, teaching English online.
I’m teaching English to Japanese and South Korean kids and adults.
It’s been a couple of weeks since I got the job and so far I love it.
I work 25 hours a week, and I take home (after tax deductions) US$38 an hour.
So, it all worked out great in the end.
It would never have worked out this way had I taken the TEFL with World TESOL Academy.
I highly recommend the TEFL Online Pro program if you want to take the TEFL/TESOL certification online whilst having an excellent support base to guide you through the entire process.
Yes, it cost more to take the TEFL with this company. But it’s not that much more and you earn the money back anyway after a day or two of teaching.
