As a non-native English speaker, it is extra complicated pursuing a TEFL career online or abroad. Most job offerings favor native speakers, or specialize in providing non-natives to students for a lower hourly rate. It is just not worth it for me to teach online for example. The market is dominated by native speakers and companies I spoke to applying for a job were offering 20% less than Americans, Australians, Brits, etc. Despite holding a Bachelor’s in education, the only way to improve my employment condition options was to fork out on a TEFL course. I liked the idea of Oxford Seminars because the name of the company sounds serious. The course wasn’t particularly difficult, although I did discover-learn in terms of presenting knowledge and implementing practice methodology. It is a 5/5 course in my opinion. Having the TEFL listed on my CV has made a difference. For any non-native speakers reading this review: take the TEFL. It’s worth the expense.
