Yesterday, it was brought to the attention of Trusted TEFL Reviews that the TEFL Academy (https://www.theteflacademy.com/) has been targeting some of its business competitors on the consumer reviews website https://www.complaintsboard.com/.
Complaints Board bills itself as a consumer watchdog website, where concerned customers can complain about poor products or services and where they can also add positive reviews for the products or services purchased.
The Complaints Board website company claims to be based in Riga, Latvia.
Complaints Board is actually based in Moscow, Russia, and is a notorious website for peddling misinformation- the classic playbook of so many Russian websites and institutions.
The website is an outright scam.
Here is how it works:
- You register on the website with an email address and you then need to confirm that email address by clicking a link that has been sent to you. This logs you into the site and makes you a new member of the site.
- You are asked to add a few more (optional) details about yourself, including your location. Here, you can write absolutely anything.
- You choose a company to review, you write your review, your review is published, and your reviewer status states that you are a verified customer (because you verified your email address only).
- You can also choose to create a new complaint – against anyone or any company – and again, your review is highlighted as being written by a verified customer just because you verified your email address. No one checks that you are a real customer. There are ZERO verification checks.
The TEFL Academy (TTA) has been taking advantage of this Russian misinformation reviews website, with its zero verification tools, by creating “complaints” and writing “reviews” about some of its TEFL business competitors.
Btw, when you visit the Complaints Board website or when you add content to the website, you are not only helping the website grow but you are also inadvertently paying into the Russian war machine.
The website is full of adverts, the owner (Russian) pays his taxes in Russia, and those taxes make their way in some form to the front line of the Ukraine/Russian war.
Dear TEFL Academy, if you are going to attack your business competitors (you will regardless of what I write) please consider doing it on websites that don’t fund the Russian government.
ESLinsider (banned from Facebook since 2017 for spreading misinformation) also uses the Complaints Board website to attack his business competitors.
