Our position

Trusted TEFL Reviews has repeatedly offered The TEFL Academy a straightforward way to resolve any genuine factual disputes.

We have repeatedly told The TEFL Academy that if it can provide verifiable evidence that specific information published on Trusted TEFL Reviews is false, we will review the evidence and, where appropriate, edit or delete the relevant information.

This offer has not been conditional on The TEFL Academy agreeing with an article, a reviewer’s opinion, or a particular rating. It concerns factual claims.

For example, where questions have been raised concerning The TEFL Academy’s accreditation and affiliate marketing claims, we have invited The TEFL Academy to provide clear, verifiable evidence addressing those questions.

We have made this offer repeatedly for approximately three years. The TEFL Academy has never responded to that offer with the specific verifiable evidence we have requested.

Instead, the issue has increasingly involved requests to remove content.

We believe there is an important distinction between disagreeing with information or opinions published about a company and demonstrating that a specific factual statement is false.

Trusted TEFL Reviews remains willing to correct genuine factual errors. If The TEFL Academy believes that any particular statement on this website is false, it can identify the statement and provide the evidence supporting its position.

Why are we publishing this list?

We believe readers should be able to see for themselves the material that has been challenged rather than simply being told that content has been the subject of removal requests.

The list is also notable because it includes positive reviews and favorable comments about The TEFL Academy, as well as critical material.

The TEFL Academy has also contacted our website provider concerning content on Trusted TEFL Reviews. The provider declined to take action in response to that request because the request did not comply with its requirements.

The underlying legal disputes involving The TEFL Academy and Trusted TEFL Reviews remain unresolved. We therefore do not suggest that the publication of this list establishes that every statement contained in every article is legally established as true. Rather, we believe readers are entitled to know that The TEFL Academy has aggressively sought the removal of this material and that we have repeatedly invited it to substantiate any specific factual objections.

The Streisand Effect

There is also a broader phenomenon worth noting: attempts to suppress or remove information can sometimes have the opposite effect, encouraging other TEFL programs and industry voices to speak up and contribute to the public discussion. This is sometimes referred to as the Streisand effect. We have seen this wider discussion develop, and this TEFL Online Pro Transparency Report provides one example of a TEFL/TESOL provider publicly addressing these issues.

A question for The TEFL Academy

Given the amount of time and resources that have been devoted to seeking the removal of content from this relatively small independent TEFL reviews website, we think it is reasonable to ask:

Has The TEFL Academy made similar requests to other TEFL review websites?

If so, we would be interested to know which websites and what content was requested to be removed.

Trusted TEFL Reviews is publishing this information in the interests of transparency and to allow readers to make their own assessment of the situation.

A pattern of misinformation?

The whole saga with this company began in early 2021.

The TEFL Academy contacted us by way of introducing themselves and inquiring whether they could have their students submit reviews.

Our response was a clear yes – we welcome customer reviews of online TEFL and TESOL certification course programs. It’s, as is often said colloquially, our bread and butter. It is this website’s raison d’être.

We were, however, unprepared for what followed.

In that same week, and the week after, we received batches of 5-star reviews of the program.

This obviously raised a red flag, and when we requested verification of course attendance or completion, only a fraction of the reviews passed the verification test. The rest remained unpublished.

A lull proceeded until we received one more review, this time written by Caitriona McTiernan, who, we discovered later, was employed by The TEFL Academy.

Her review read like a glossy magazine brochure for the company – it was promptly discarded and, hence, unpublished.

Caitriona reacted so aggressively that we felt the need to add a post about her bizarre behavior:

https://trustedteflreviews.com/2025/09/09/tpr-teaching-caitriona-maria-mctiernan-tefl-affiliates-scam/

And this is when we really began digging into claims made by The TEFL Academy.

We discovered a treasure trove of misinformation.

One from the many was, and still is the claim that the company has an office in New York, USA.

We did our due diligence, contacted the building owner, and they provided us with a clear answer: never heard of The TEFL Academy, never had an office space or even a mailbox registered at the address.

If a company is willing to take the decision to falsify a company address on its website, to what other extents will they go to?
