I first heard about the possibility of teaching English as a viable full-time occupation while I was studying at college. Before then, I had no idea that it was possible to do such a thing. Because I majored at OISE – UoT, it was a no-brainer for me to take the certification with the university TEFL program. Well actually the program is delivered through Teach Away, not through the university, but the certificate awarded has the university’s name on it and for all intents and purposes it is a university TEFL program.
I don’t want to repeat what others have already written about this program, except that I also thoroughly enjoyed everything about it and it fully prepared me for ESL teaching.
It is one of the more expensive courses, but I feel you get what you pay for.
Since completing the course I have been teaching online to professionals based in East China, and I have also managed to pick up a few hours of volunteering here in Ontario.
With so many courses offering the TEFL certificate, it can become a little daunting when you need to decide on one program. I can recommend the TEFL course offered by UoT Teach Away as being a professionally run program that paves the way for employment after course completion.
